The Opportunity

As an Operations Center Engineer Level 2 you will work as part of a high-caliber team of experienced engineers to ensure uptime, availability, and performance SLAs are met in an environment that is constantly evolving and expanding.

Responsibilities
  • Manages the functionality and efficiency of a group of computers running on one or more operating systems.
  • Building and tools, scripts, and operating procedures for continuous efficiency improvement
  • Fault detection, isolation, resolution, and root cause analysis
  • Maintains the integrity and security of servers and systems.
  • Sets up administrator and service accounts.
  • Maintains system documentation in our internal wiki (Confluence)
  • Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery.
  • Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
  • May program in an administrative language.
  • Develops and implements testing strategies and document results.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.
  • Participates in special projects as required.

Required Skills/ Experience
  • BS degree in a technical discipline (Computer Science or Computer Engineering is preferred). MS preferred. (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience with RHEL Linux Systems Administration or as a Linux Engineer, ideally you'll be degree educated with a 2:1 or above
  • Managing LAMP servers in a Highly-Available, 24x7 production environment
  • Knowledge of Linux, ideally RedHat / CentOS
  • Knowledge of systems and infrastructure security
  • Demonstrated experience working with monitoring and analytics tools (e.g. Nagios, Cacti, Splunk)
  • Working knowledge of deployment and distribution automation tools (YUM, Puppet, RPM, etc)
  • Implementing and supporting management tools
  • Experienced with hosting and scaling Java application servers (Tomcat, JBoss, etc) in a highly available and high throughput environment
  • Scripting skills using Unix scripting toolkits (bash, sed, awk, etc)

Nice-to-haves
  • Storage administration experience, especially with NetApp filers
  • MySQL database administration experience
  • Virtual systems build and management utilizing VMware, KVM, Xen, etc.
  • Development experience (e.g. Python, Perl, etc)
  • Automation experience (e.g. Fabric, Terraform, etc)
  • Cloud Platform experience (e.g. Google)
