Amazon’s exhilarating growth of infrastructure spend to support our growing businesses, phenomenal growth in engineering talent and resulting technology, and our increasing adoption of native AWS services has created an opportunity for an experienced Software Development Manager in CloudTune Scaling Efficiency. Amazon's CloudTune Scaling Efficiency team automates capacity management of AWS products used for Amazon business (Consumer Retail, Amazon Video, Kindle, Alexa, Amazon Subsidiaries and more). The team develops and operates CloudTune Scaling Planner which scales services by continually monitoring and adjusting compute capacity to maintain the service’s target utilization levels for both peak sales events (e.g. Prime Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday) and non-peak periods. As AWS’ largest customer, Amazon’s Consumer business, consisting of many tens of thousands of independent web services, places unique auto-scaling challenges on the otherwise “infinite” cloud that require advance planning and coordination with our partners in AWS. As we increasingly shift from planning compute capacity at the ‘host’ level, our tools for capacity planning and scaling management need to be continuously re-invented to account for new cloud paradigms. The future of scaling reduces the burden on our developer community to manage at Amazon scale through auto-scaled and flexible capacity pools, serverless hosted higher order services, and dynamic pricing across multi-year planning horizons.
As a software development engineering manager, you will own the software that drives predictive auto-scaling across Amazon, and will while own software innovation to improve the coverage and efficiency of predictive models for auto-scaling. Within the CloudTune organization, you will thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment focused on building systems that automate the scaling of all Amazon websites and services. This translates to a very large volume of data to be processed by sophisticated algorithms, presenting challenging scalability, efficiency, and distributed systems design problems. You will partner with technology and business leaders that own the full scope of computing capacity supply for Amazon, from forecasting to procurement through provisioning and operation. As the leader of a team of software engineers, you will own the architecture and vision for the products. You will be responsible for leading the team and technical vision for a new mission critical systems optimize compute the supply of compute capacity supply within Amazon. You will lead and coordinate design/implementation efforts between multiple teams to develop optimal solutions. You will deliver initiatives that benefit all of Amazon while leveraging latest in AWS, big data and machine learning.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related degree or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years’ experience in leading software engineering teams to deliver highly available distributed systems.
- Experience with professional software engineering best practices such as Agile project management, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership, project planning and execution skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information concisely to a variety of audience.
- Master's Degree in computer science or related field
- Familiarity with cloud computing concepts and experience working in cloud platforms such as AWS
- Experience with security and compliance systems
- Experience in an engineering leadership position where you have been the owner of a technical architecture with engineers working under your guidance.
- Strong business and technical vision.
- Strong analytic and problem solving skills.
- Experience with large scale distributed systems.
