The ideal candidate:

Your responsibility as a database administrator/System Engineer will be the performance, integrity and security of our database. You'll be involved in the planning and development of the database, as well as in troubleshooting any issues on behalf of users across the airline hangers we manage in UK, Germany, Sweden, Ukraine, Moscow and Cyprus.

Airline industry background or interest in airlines would be helpful.

Full capability and knowledge of Oracle and Linux computer operating systems and database technology (design, software and structure) - essential

Job description:

Oracle / Linux:

Provide support (including outside of normal business hours) to Debian Linux / Oracle based systems.

To include:

Day to day monitoring and of the database.
Out of hours support for the database and O/S.
Patch installs / upgrades.
Troubleshooting / fault fixing.
Recommend improvements etc
Liaise with suppliers (Locatory / Component Control / Oracle) as necessary to carry out above tasks.

SQL Server / Windows Server

Gain sufficient technical knowledge of SQL server in order to provide support as per Linux/Oracle based systems.

Sensus / Quantum (internal system)

Gain sufficient technical knowledge of the above systems to be able to provide 1st & 2ND line application support to end users.

Team Leader

Perform team lead function for offshore IT staff.
Liaise with IT Manager as required.

Hours worked

Standard UK hours 8:30am – 5pm (Monday – Thursday) and until 2:30pm on Friday

Out of hours availability for emergency calls 24/7 – This is unlikely to occur more than once per week, and most likely in the day time.

You'll ensure that:

Back up and recovery control (ensuring all data, functions & access controls are fully retrievable in an emergency)
Establish the needs of users and monitor user access and security
Manage and test back-up and recovery plans.
