Description
  • This is a regional Server Operations Administrator position within the Emerson Service, Delivery & Operations Organization. The incumbent will have regional responsibilities of the operational capability of Server and Storage Services as defined by Emerson IT. He/She will be responsible to deliver agreed level of Server Services to internal customers, users, and to manage associated applications, technology and infrastructure supporting delivery of these services in an always-on, ITIL inspired environment. The Senior Server Operations Administrator will work alongside colleagues from other World Areas (AP and NA) and help coordinate the follow-the-sun, 24/7 support activity to provide the best customer service experience, in alignment with the Server Services and associated SLA’s
  • Emerson IT services span a variety of businesses, sites and user base count, from SOHO sales offices to Business Unit headquarters serving 2000+ users on a 24/7 basis.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 2nd & 3rd Level Support for Emerson On-Premise IT Server and Storage infrastructure globally with a focus in Europe, Middle-East and Africa region during working hours
  • Provide out-of-hours Operations for other World Areas such as services monitoring (including planned maintenance, Events, backup) and ensure professional handover of current Infrastructure state between shifts in a (currently) 24/5 activity; This includes optimizing service time-to-restore by working on Major Incidents till full resolution.
  • Strive for optimization through automation, leverage (e.g. of other teams) and efficiency of process and procedure;
  • Participate to weekly, monthly and on-demand Central Patching Service for server machines across Emerson;
  • Analyze system logs and trend data to plan essentials actions to ensure suitable levels of infrastructure are available to maintain a high level of service availability for users;
  • Keep servers up-to-date with current firmware and administration tools versions;
  • Ensure standard configuration, monitoring and maintenance of standard storage systems (local storage, SANs, etc.) in a production environment;
  • Security: Ensure all ‘Layer 0’ software is installed and updated on all servers across Emerson and all systems are respecting the Corporate Security and Patching policy;
  • Understand, invoke and participate, when required, to improve escalation processes and major issues procedures;
  • Ensure all new server additions to the Emerson environment adhere to the standard configuration - Server Administrators are responsible to bring and maintain the server install base up to the standard level defined in the service;
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of hardware refresh projects, respecting the hardware lifecycle process and the hardware deployment and imaging procedures. Improve the process and procedures by providing constructive feed-back through the Continual Service Improvement process (CSI);
  • Occasional on-site physical implementation when relevant;
  • Identify and propose relevant means to automate various operational tasks or provide relevant feedback to the CSI process;
  • Work with the IT Asset Management team and standard server-related software/hardware vendors to ensure the maintenance of a legitimate server software environment within the Enterprise;
  • Reporting and data mining will be a key task using defined reporting tools - reporting metrics, such as server uptime, storage free space, etc. (as defined in relevant SLAs);
  • Produce and maintain up-to-date server and storage operating procedures and documentation;
  • Ensure proper data backup configuration and monitoring, and on-demand or test restores, tape management included;
  • Manage central Infrastructure permissions according to standard security and delegation model defined by the existing Server Service and audit them regularly;
  • Participate in Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) tests and help maintain DRP processes to highest standards;
  • Participate in the execution of projects for Server, Storage and Backup systems;
  • During Enterprise IT Infrastructure transformation, legacy environment management such as SharePoint, Citrix and SQL Server could be entailed. Such cases will be agreed on a case by case basis.

Requirements
  • Specific IT Skill areas should include:
  • Advanced Hypervisor technologies (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix);
  • Advanced Hypervisor central management tools (e.g. vCenter, Prism);
  • Proficient in patching technologies (e.g. WSUS, Ivanti);
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2012/2016 and Active Directory;
  • Basic SQL 2008/2012/2014/2016 Server skills (backup, restore, duplicate, scheduled maintenance);
  • Basic application publishing technologies (e.g. CITRIX; MS Remote Access);
  • Automation technologies (e.g. PowerCLI, PowerShell) – advantageous;
  • Storage networking knowledge (Fiber Channel, iSCSI, SAS);
  • Storage technologies (e.g. Dell Compellent, Dell Modular Disk);
  • Backup technologies and solutions (e.g. Veeam, CommVault, Avamar);
  • Familiar with IP network skills, in particular a basic understanding of Cisco network environments;
  • Familiar with web services and the technology principles behind the services that are needed to provide web sites;
  • Basic knowledge of SharePoint 2013/2016 technologies – very advantageous, but not essential, as training will be provided
  • An effective communicator:
    • Able to work daily with remote colleagues and service customers, through phone, email, instant messaging;
    • Good written communication skills;
    • Good documentation and procedure writing skills;
  • Autonomy in task and priority management;
  • Willing to travel for short periods of time (when needed);
  • Strong, demonstrable customer focus;
  • Strong analytical capabilities and good problem-solving skills;
  • Language knowledge - fluent in English (speaking / reading / writing). Other languages an advantage (e.g. Filipino, Mandarin, Japanese, French, Spanish, Italian, Romanian);
  • Quick learner, team player with self-motivation to work in a remote support capacity;
  • Logically organized, efficient and creative with strong analytical skills;
  • Experience of a support role in a diverse multi-national environment an advantage;
