Detailed Description:
Incumbents apply in-depth knowledge in a specific area of specialization. Work is performed within established professional standards and practices. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors and a considerable degree of judgement. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results may have a negative impact on the division’s/department’s operations, schedules, and/or performance goals. Works under minimum Supervision. Seeks approval from others on matters outside of job/role scope. Receives instruction on specific assignment objectives and possible solutions. Unusual problems are solved jointly with manager. Work is reviewed for application of sound technical judgment. May lead a work group or project team consisting of technical and support staff. Builds internal and external relationships, with emphasis on those that facilitate the achievement of job/role accountabilities, such as relationships with key suppliers, customers and internal service.

Perform tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:



Automation engineer design, program, simulate and test automated machinery and processes in order to complete exact tasks. He utilizes technology to improve, streamline and automate a manufacturing process, to make it as efficient as possible while still maintaining product quality and adhering to internal protocols and external regulations.

The field of automation involves the creation and application of technology to monitor or control the production and delivery of products and services.



Main tasks:

Identification of new opportunities for automation within the manufacturing process
Designing new automation equipment or processes
Simulating and testing these processes or equipment to ensure they function as desired
Writing reports outlining new concepts, testing outcomes, and ongoing efficiency
Programming new automated components to the manufacturing process - PLC programming
Developing and maintaining clear and accurate documentation of automation equipment or processes
Staff training where necessary – typically after implementing new processes or equipment, or making changes to existing ones
Troubleshooting automated processes or equipment when errors occur


Responsibilities:



Engineering

Translate user requirements in a functional design and technical concept
Implement PLC and SCADA applications
Assist Engineering department when new machines are purchased
Coordinate commissioning of new installations (FAT, SAT) together with Automation department
Manage scope, budget and planning
Update automation documentation (functional analysis, manuals, training documentation, preventative maintenance plans and troubleshooting guides).
Resolve day-to-day automation issues
Participate in the rotating on-call support
Support production, process engineers and maintenance department in the area of problem analysis and optimization
Apply the necessary software and hardware updates
Manage critical spare parts assets.
Development

Improve work processes and setup standards for process control software and systems in order to increase reliability and efficiency
Participate in Site best-practice peer groups
Continuous development of your own knowledge
Organize training for end-users.




Requirements:



Master degree or Bachelor degree with minimal 3 years’ experience (electrical, information technology, process technology)
Excellent computer skills – particularly in programming and software development.
Knowledge of electrical and instrumentation equipment
Detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes and process control systems on site
Experience in PLC Programming
Experience in HMI Programming
Basic IT skills (software, database, networking, operating systems, security/IP)
Problem solving skills. Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests
Conceptual thinking ability (can translate customer requirements into technical solutions)
Strong teamwork and communication skills to manage multiple/concurrent projects
Very good communication skills on multiple levels (supervision, operators, maintenance, IT)
Works independently and responsible without close supervision. Must be able to take full responsibility
Be able to quickly adapt to new technologies
Knowledge of English.
Creative thinking skills
Detail-oriented personality
Excellent manual dexterity
Ability to coordinate with outside suppliers


Additional desirable skills:



Expertise in Solidworks
Experience with PLC programming
Knowledge of lean manufacturing and ergonomic principles
Familiar with 6-Axis robot programming
Familiar with machine vision principles
